- I can explain a historical connection using relevant evidence and qualify the conclusion.
4 questions, written answer, each with a worked explanation.
Vocabulary used: context, evidence, interpretation, sepoy, accommodation.
Problem 1
Answer and explanation
A trigger does not explain every participant’s aims. Identify the unit, region, and grievance, then connect military revolt with broader struggles. Avoid describing all Indians as acting together or reducing the conflict to one religious misunderstanding.
Problem 2
Answer and explanation
Ask what relationship changed and what remained. Company rule and crown rule are different forms under continuing imperial authority. A new administrative title alone does not establish freedom or improved access for every community.
Problem 3
Answer and explanation
Describe organization and decisions rather than treating victory as an unexplained exception. Preserving independence in one conflict does not mean all territory or neighboring communities shared the same political experience, nor does it describe the later Italian invasion in 1935.
Problem 4
Answer and explanation
Compare a stated goal with the actual result and available alternatives. Do not infer a person’s motives from a single label. Evidence of negotiation, coercion, and local disagreement is necessary to understand choices under imperial power.
