Chapter: Research & Source-Based WritingWhat these drills covers
By the end of Integrating Evidence & Citation you should be able to:
- I can quote, paraphrase, and summarize a source and choose the right one for the moment.
- I can integrate evidence smoothly with signal phrases and cite it in MLA style, avoiding plagiarism.
2 questions, written answer, each with a worked explanation.
Vocabulary used: direct quotation, paraphrase, summary, signal phrase, in-text citation, plagiarism.
Problem 1
Answer and explanation
A citation allows readers to trace borrowed words and ideas. MLA in-text references direct readers to a Works Cited entry, adding an available locator such as a page number when appropriate. Show an actual application before considering the method recalled.
Use the criteria to compare your reasoning, not to copy the model’s wording. A supported alternative interpretation may earn full credit.
Response criteria
- Make an accurate, focused claim or revision.
- Use a relevant detail or a clearly explained language choice.
- Explain the relationship and recognize a relevant limit.
